The main towns in Aberdeenshire have teamed-up to promote themselves at the annual Visit Scotland travel trade exhibition.

The member towns of Aberdeenshire Towns Together (ATT) will share a double stand at Scotland’s “shop window” in an attempt to attract a slice of the international tourism market.

"The Visit Scotland annual exhibition attracts travel trade buyers from all over the world,” explained John Glover, chairman of Inverurie Business Association and the town’s representative on ATT. “The aim of the ATT stand is to encourage the international buyers to build our towns into their planning.

“We want to encourage business and holiday visitors to come to Aberdeenshire and to spend time in the towns of Aberdeenshire,” said John.

Visitors to the ATT stand will receive a pack of promotional leaflets on the Aberdeenshire towns and a CD containing a colourful slide show and detailed information on each town. Their names will also be included in a draw to win a hamper of products produced in the north-east of Scotland.

The promotional CD slide show features backing music by Inverurie Academy youth band Celtacad (correct). The CD was produced by Computers & Integration of Inverurie.

The participating towns are: Banff, Macduff, Fraserburgh, Peterhead, Turriff, Huntly, Ellon, Inverurie, Banchory and Stonehaven. All Scotland’s counties and many of the major tourist hotels and attractions will have stands including the recently re-branded Aberdeen City and Shire.

“It’s all too easy for tourists to pass through Aberdeenshire en route to Inverness and the Highlands,” explained the IBA chairman. “The towns of this area have a great deal to offer visitors and we would like to convince them to stop a while.”

This will be the fourth Visit Scotland exhibition attended by ATT.

An added attraction for visitors to The Towns of Aberdeenshire stand will be entry to a raffle for a hamper, brim full of products produced in the county.

“Attracting more visitors to the North-east is essential to providing wealth and employment for this and future generations,” said Aberdeenshire Provost and chair of NESTOUR Raymond Bisset. “I have been most impressed at the very professional approach being taken by Aberdeenshire Towns Together.”

The Aberdeenshire Towns Together initiative is part funded by a grant from Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership (ATP) to facilitate joint working on common projects.
